Texas cops are walking stereotypes

Everyone hates generalizations, except police in Texas, apparently. The state is home to a diverse population. And the intelligent people who’ve found themselves inexplicably living there have been trying to convince the rest of the country that the state is not a hotbed of intolerance, guns, and stupidity. On that note, this story must have been pretty damn disappointing:

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two Fort Worth City Council members are calling for an investigation into a police raid at a gay bar. Councilman Joel Burns says discrimination will not be tolerated. Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks says she's disturbed by the raid that sent at least one person to the hospital. Seven people were arrested during the raid at the Rainbow Lounge early Sunday. Fort Worth police said their officers and agents from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission conducted code inspections at three bars. Police said two intoxicated people at Rainbow Lounge made sexually explicit moves toward officers and a third grabbed a TABC agent's groin. About 100 people gathered in downtown Fort Worth on Sunday night to protest the raid.[Source:www.chron.com]

Ugh. Why is it that douchebags always cite the “he came onto me” excuse for assaulting gay people? I’m pretty sure it’s still against the law to kick someone’s ass even if they hit on you. I sincerely doubt anyone grabbed anyone’s crotch (I can spot a bullshitter from a mile away. We can smell our own). But even if someone had, it was a drunk person in a dark gay bar confronted with someone dressed as a cop. Mistakes are bound to be made. If I had grabbed your crotch, officer, would I have been beaten with a nightstick? Unsubstantiated reports have said that the men arrested at the bar were also beaten and that they were arrested for public intoxication. If that’s true then, apparently, in Texas, one can only get drunk at home. Lay off the gays, Texas. They’re not bothering you. Didn’t you want to secede from the union a couple months ago? What happened with that? Are you not doing that? Cause it’s totally cool with the rest of us if you do.

True story, the Huston Chronicle article block-quoted above was titled “2 council members want probe into gay bar raid”. Seriously. That got past an editor.
