President Clinton loves embarrassing Hillary

You didn’t think I’d miss an opportunity for two North Korea posts in one day did you? I get a femboner every time I see the name of that land of Kallocain in a headline. Anyway, this second blurb out of the deep recesses of Cormac McCarthy’s nightmares is focused on the release of those American journalists who were recently sentenced to 12 years in a North Korean forced-labor camp. Today brought news that slick Willie Clinton is hangin with the boys in Pyongyang hopin he can sort this whole mess out (presumably with the aid of Taedonggang and hookers).

Former US President Bill Clinton has arrived in North Korea on a surprise visit to discuss the fate of two jailed US reporters. He is the highest-profile American to visit since his secretary of state, Madeleine Albright, went in 2000. The main purpose of Mr Clinton's trip seems to be to secure the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who were recently sentenced to 12 years in jail. He may also try to ease the deadlock over the North's nuclear ambitions. Washington made no announcement of Mr Clinton's trip prior to his arrival, but in a later statement stressed that this was a private visit. [Source: bbc.co.uk].

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, it’s great that he’s keeping busy during retirement. Also, he really does have one of the best foreign relations resumes of any President in recent memory and it would suck for those women to have to enter a work camp just for hanging out in NK. But on the other hand, I can’t help but think this is a major embarrassment for Hillary. I mean, North Korea just publicly dissed her a little over a week ago (http://daughterofthehumantornado.blogspot.com/2009/07/awww-snap.html). I’m a huge fan of Ms. Clinton and I’m confident in her abilities, thus my concern is that this leaves her open to critics suggesting that she’s sending her husband in to clean up her mess. Hillary is totally capable of doing her job herself. I know that President Clinton is trying to help but I don’t think he thought it out beforehand.
